Each third-year resident has supervisory responsibility for the family medicine service for 1½ months. Residents spend 1½ months in their family practice centers, where they provide outpatient care the majority of time and spend dedicated time on office laboratory, nutritional counseling, behavioral counseling, pharmacotherapy management, and management of health systems activities. A community medicine rotation allows residents to work in a family practice office in another community and complete a practice assessment project. Many residents use this rotation as a way of evaluating a future practice opportunity. Residents who do not plan to practice obstetrics and have fulfilled the OB requirements are excused from the third year OB rotation and may choose an elective instead. Residents select three months of electives during this year. |
