The Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program takes a progressive and innovative approach to training family medicine residents. Our residency offers extensive and diverse educational and real practice experience. Practice in our community-based family practice centers offers an apprenticeship model of training, including the opportunity to do obstetrics, collaboration with numerous specialists and a dedicated family medicine inpatient unit.
The
Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program is sponsored by Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast. Cabarrus
Family Medicine is the sole residency program at this medical
center. Overall, family medicine residents are presented with
a unique blend of training and education in a supportive and friendly
atmosphere.
The Cabarrus Family Medicine Residency Program is accredited by the Residency Review Committee for Family Practice, under the authority of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The program consists of a 24-position residency, with eight resident positions each year. Residents rotate throughout all areas of the medical center in addition to their work in the family practice centers. This program and its staff are dedicated to providing each resident with an outstanding learning experience in the best possible environment.
Family
medicine residents are assigned to one of four family practice
centers in Concord, Kannapolis, Mt. Pleasant and Harrisburg. Each
of these communities offer a diverse cross-section of patients
but are located no more than 15 miles from Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast.
The areas were chosen for their individual characteristics ranging
from suburban to rural. Each site has at least four faculty family
physicians, a physician assistant or family nurse practitioner,
ancillary staff and up to six residents. Residents participate in ongoing
patient care, have an active role in the management of the center
in which they practice, and have the opportunity for community
service.
